About the Website

Welcome to engineersnotebook.com, a personal space where I document the lessons, insights, and everyday experiences I encounter in my engineering work.

With over a decade of hands-on work in the process industries, my career has taken me through maintenance, operations, project planning, and management. Along the way, I’ve come to appreciate that much of what we learn on the job rarely makes it into textbooks or formal training. Those small but important takeaways are what inspired me to start this site.

Think of it as a digital notebook where I reflect on problems I’ve solved, methods that worked (and those that didn’t), and practical knowledge that might help someone else in a similar role.

What I offer here is grounded entirely in the knowledge and information I’ve needed to perform my own job roles in the field. The topics and calculators are drawn from real experiences and day-to-day tasks, not from a curriculum. My hope is that by sharing these notes, others (whether just starting out or well into their careers) might find a few practical takeaways, avoid some common pitfalls, or simply feel a bit more connected in the shared challenges we face as engineers.

Here is what you will find on the site:

  • Project Engineering & Management: Insights into the early phases, including design basis, plant layout, and interface management.

  • Equipment & Engineering Design: How we select and design systems, covering rotating equipment, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, tanks, fans, and blowers.

  • Plant Operations & Instrumentation: What happens after commissioning, including control loops, field instrumentation basics, and operational best practices for efficiency.

  • Everyday Engineering Tools: The utilities used throughout the life cycle, such as unit converters and quick calculation tools.

My goal is to steadily build this notebook, capturing the lessons and insights I encounter as my professional journey progresses.
