Formulas Used:
- Velocity (v) = Flow Rate (Q) / Cross-sectional Area (A)
- Reynolds Number (Re) = (ρ × v × D) / μ
- Friction Factor (f): Laminar (Re < 2300): f = 64/Re, Turbulent: Colebrook-White approximation
- Pressure Drop (ΔP) = f × (L/D) × (ρ × v² / 2)
Limitations:
- For straight, circular pipes only (no fittings, elbows, valves)
- Assumes fully developed, steady, incompressible flow
- For Newtonian fluids only
- Accuracy decreases for very rough pipes or extreme velocities
- Temperature effects on fluid properties not accounted for
