Formulas Used:

  • Velocity (v) = Flow Rate (Q) / Cross-sectional Area (A)
  • Reynolds Number (Re) = (ρ × v × D) / μ
  • Friction Factor (f): Laminar (Re < 2300): f = 64/Re, Turbulent: Colebrook-White approximation
  • Pressure Drop (ΔP) = f × (L/D) × (ρ × v² / 2)

Limitations:

  • For straight, circular pipes only (no fittings, elbows, valves)
  • Assumes fully developed, steady, incompressible flow
  • For Newtonian fluids only
  • Accuracy decreases for very rough pipes or extreme velocities
  • Temperature effects on fluid properties not accounted for
